After a Father's Death in Maine, ICE Watch Groups Rethink Tactics

Immigration authorities in the United States have adopted a quieter, more secretive approach under the Trump administration's crackdown, culminating in the killing of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a father, in Maine. In response, volunteer groups that track ICE operations are changing how they monitor and document enforcement activity, developing new methods to counter the reduced visibility of federal actions.
Why now: A fatal ICE operation and the agency's increasingly covert enforcement tactics are prompting immigrant-rights watchers to publicly change their monitoring strategies.
