Local Wikipedia project covers only what's within walking distance
Original: Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
A new project called Local Wikipedia proposes an encyclopedia limited to things within roughly a half-hour walk of the reader, covering neighbourhood shops, streets, landmarks and local history. The idea is drawing attention online, with people debating how hyperlocal knowledge could be collected and whether a walkable scope would make an encyclopedia genuinely useful.
Why now: The concept of a strictly hyperlocal Wikipedia is a fresh, discussable twist on crowdsourced knowledge.
