New 'Local Wikipedia' covers only what's within a half-hour walk
Original: Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
A project called Local Wikipedia limits its coverage to places and things within roughly a half-hour walk of the user's location. The concept is drawing attention online, with readers debating the appeal of hyperlocal knowledge: nearby history, streets, buildings and landmarks that global encyclopedias tend to skip. Fans say it could reveal how much is worth documenting right outside your door.
Why now: People are intrigued by the novelty of a hyperlocal encyclopedia restricted to a walkable radius.
