Local Wikipedia aims to cover only what's within walking distance
Original: Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
A new project called Local Wikipedia proposes a wiki covering only places and things within about a half hour's walk of the user. The concept, shared online, is drawing attention for flipping Wikipedia's global scope on its head, focusing on hyperlocal knowledge such as neighbourhood shops, streets and landmarks that mainstream encyclopedias rarely document.
Why now: The idea of a hyperlocal, walkable-radius encyclopedia is a fresh twist on familiar online encyclopedias, sparking curiosity and debate.
