Debate: Is RAM in personal computers wasted capacity?
Original: RAM wasted on users PCs.. should be concentrated on datacenters
A discussion is underway over whether the world's limited DRAM supply is being used inefficiently, with one argument holding that memory sitting idle in personal computers — used roughly 5% of the time — should instead be concentrated in cloud datacenters where utilization is maximized. The debate comes amid memory supply constraints and rising demand driven by AI infrastructure, prompting questions about centralized versus personal computing resource allocation.
Why now: DRAM shortages and surging datacenter demand have reignited debate over how the world's limited memory supply should be allocated.
