Debate over whether personal RAM is wasted capacity
Original: RAM wasted on users PCs.. should be concentrated on datacenters
A global discussion is under way about how the world's limited supply of DRAM is allocated, with the argument that memory sitting idle in personal computers for most of the day is an inefficient use of a scarce resource. Critics of distributed home computing say memory should be concentrated in datacenters, where utilization is far higher, particularly amid current supply constraints driven by demand for AI and cloud infrastructure.
Why now: DRAM shortages and datacenter demand have made people question how efficiently consumer PCs use the world's memory supply
