Pete Hegseth appoints Elon Musk to US warfare taskforce

Original: Pete Hegseth appoints Elon Musk to US taskforce on future of warfare

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has named Elon Musk to a Pentagon taskforce charged with shaping the future of American warfare. The appointment puts the Tesla and SpaceX chief, already one of the most powerful figures in US defence contracting, at the heart of military planning. Commenters are debating the move, with many questioning the wisdom of giving a billionaire contractor formal influence over military strategy and procurement.

Why now: The unusual appointment of a major defence contractor's chief to a government warfare taskforce raises conflict-of-interest concerns.
