Boston Dynamics employees protest ICE robot dog purchase
Original: ICE plan to buy robot dogs spurs protest from Boston Dynamics employees
Employees at Boston Dynamics are protesting the company's reported plan to sell its robot dogs to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Workers want to block the sale, arguing the quadruped robots should not be used by an agency whose enforcement practices they oppose. The dispute highlights growing internal resistance at robotics firms over how their technology is deployed by government agencies, particularly immigration enforcement.
Why now: Robotics workers publicly pushing back against a government agency purchase raises fresh concerns about militarized or policed use of commercial robots.
