Boston Dynamics employees protest ICE robot dog purchase
Original: ICE plan to buy robot dogs spurs protest from Boston Dynamics employees
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to buy robotic dogs from Boston Dynamics, and employees at the robotics company are pushing back, urging leadership to block the sale. The protest revives long-running debate over the company's pledge that its robots would not be weaponised or used for surveillance and enforcement, and echoes earlier controversies over police deployments of the Spot robot.
Why now: Employees openly opposing their own company's government contract taps into ongoing concerns about robotics being used in immigration enforcement.
