Distributed Proofreaders Draws Fresh Attention

Original: Distributed Proofreaders

Distributed Proofreaders, the volunteer project that helps digitize public domain books for Project Gutenberg, is back in discussion. Volunteers proofread scanned pages of old books page by page, allowing free online access to thousands of works. Discussion centers on the project's long-running crowdsourcing model and its role in preserving literary heritage online.

Why now: A front-page discussion revived interest in the long-running volunteer digitization effort.
