Distributed Proofreaders draws fresh attention
Original: Distributed Proofreaders
Distributed Proofreaders, the volunteer project that helps digitize public domain books for Project Gutenberg, is being discussed. Volunteers proofread scanned pages of old books page by page, preserving literature that would otherwise remain inaccessible. The project has been running for over two decades and relies entirely on community contributions. Readers are revisiting how crowdsourced proofreading has helped build one of the largest free digital libraries.
Why now: The project resurfaced in discussion, likely because of its unusual volunteer-driven model for preserving public domain books.
