Lithuanian woman tells hammer-and-sickle waving students to study history
Original: "Study history thoroughly" Lithuanian woman to hammer and sickle waving students
A Lithuanian woman has published an open letter addressing students who wave the hammer and sickle, urging them to study history thoroughly before embracing Soviet symbols. The letter has drawn praise from Italian readers, according to Baltic Takes. Lithuania, which endured Soviet occupation and deportations, bans communist symbols, making such gestures especially contentious there.
Why now: Ongoing debate over communist symbolism among young people resonates strongly in post-Soviet countries like Lithuania.
