Lithuanian woman's open letter urges students to study Soviet history
Original: "Study history thoroughly" Lithuanian woman to hammer and sickle waving students
A Lithuanian woman has written an open letter to students waving hammer-and-sickle flags, telling them to "study history thoroughly". The letter has drawn praise from Italian readers, with the exchange spreading across European online communities. Many commenters echo her point that the symbol's meaning under Soviet rule is often poorly understood by younger protesters.
Why now: The letter resonates with Europeans with living memory of Soviet rule debating the display of communist symbols by young activists
